I've been very busy over the past couple of weeks! Well, one week notsomuch, since I was on a boat having too much fun to chain. ANYWAY -
I succeeded with my first uber-successful chain in Platinum, of Electabuzz. I got to 40 on it, and was able to keep resetting until I depleted my whole supply of max repels! I gathered 5 orange Electabuzz on that chain (all of them MALE for some reason). I gave them silly names like Gancho, Pancho, Chancho and Groucho (for the spanish speakers out there, feel free to laugh at the first and third names. XD) The last one I left unnicknamed because I ran out of ideas.
Then when I was chaining some machoke simply to get some attack EVs, a shiny spot appeared at only 8 in one of the many chains I created! <3 Blue stripes ftw.
I am currently trying my damndest to chain Rhyhorn, but thehorny little buggers are stubborn. I've tried at least 5 times, each time getting into the 20's before busting. Argh! I'm at 20 again currently, so here's hoping.
EDIT! Shiny female Rhyhorn at 33! <3
If anyone would like to trade one of my Electabuzz, let me know and I'll post stats and such once my Rhyhorn chain is over.

So I tried it this afternoon and it worked! I am the proud mama of a shiny Caterpie named Kejimkujik. It's great and all... but it's just not as thrilling as chaining and obtaining your very own pokemon, so I'm going to keep searching for glitter patches. :3
Thanks,
dukeburger, for the info on the genders/natures/etc., I'd still like to know a bit more sometime.
...before I skitter off to bed:
I just tried to RNG twice and perhaps I failed because of the taps part of the method - I kept accidentally hitting the screen once instead of twice per tap, so that would unintentionally mean three clicks on the screen per jump in several cases. Is this something to avoid doing? I think I have to practice a little. :/
Also, the smogon method instructions are a little ambiguous to me - when the instructions say flip to the app before the happiness checker, do they mean numerically before? I know it sounds silly, but depending on the way you're used to flipping on Pt, either # 5 or #7 could be considered before Happiness Checker... In my case, I always click upwards to change them.
And the pokemon you're going to breed - can they be in your party? Or is it better to have them in your PC box?
And finally, what exactly do you do with the Ability and gender generator parts? This might be my biggest problem. It looks to me that the instructions explain what they do, but not how to use them. This question refers to the end of step 5 in the instructions. O.o
I guess I will try again tomorrow, when I am not so tired. Thanks for any insight you can offer. ^_^;
PS: Sorry about double-posting. ._. Still working on the Masuda Caterpie though! Yeah, I chose Caterpie, after all. Couldn't say no to a level 100 shiny Caterpie, of all things.

Okay, so I have been bouncing around on which pokemon to try Masuda Methoding for a while. My initial thought was Caterpie, if I could get my hands on one. Not to evolve into a Butterfree or anything, but to level up and make a superfast level one hundred golden caterpillar to run around with when HGSS comes out.
Then I changed my mind to Cyndaquil because he's my favourite fire type. Then Staryu because it's so precious when its gem is blue. Then Piplup cause he's green...sorta. Then back to Caterpie, then back to Piplup. So I started with Piplup, and got to thinking, 'Why am I doing this?' after about 95 Piplup eggs. ETA: And now I'm considering Chikorita, because it's just so precious. I don't like any of her other evolutions, though, so she'd be a level 100 beginner evolution, too...
Question:
Which of these would you personally try for, if you were so inclined/insane?

Just wondering, 'cause I'm bored and hatching eevee eggs for females. They're still popular on GTS, for some reason. :/
